SNEHANA in PANCHAKARMA AYURVEDA
Everything that is around us today has thrown our bodies off balance,The food , the water , our lifestyle , everything is making our body full of toxins so much that a healthy diet and exercise regimen alone might not be enough to set our bodies straight.
Luckily, a technique from the ancient Indian medical science Ayurveda may just be the answer to this modern-day plight.

That is Panchakarma

As we all know PANCHAKARMA  involves five processes to remove toxins and purify the body:

therapeutic vomiting (VAMANA)
purgation,(VIRECHANA)
enema,(BASTI)
nasal administration of medicines (NASYA)
Impure bloodletting. (RAKTAMOKSHANA)

Toxins are typically located in the part of the body that is affected by the disease, but they need to be brought into the gastrointestinal tract before they can be removed through a panchakarma therapy. (दोषों à¤•ा शाखा से कोष्ठ की ओर गमन)

This is where snehana comes in. Snehana therapy includes procedures that lubricate the body internally or externally.
This is the purvakarma in PANCHAKARMA procedure.

This therapy softens the toxins so that they are detached and channeled to the gastrointestinal tract, where they can be easily eliminated during the main detoxifying process of Panchakarma.

How Is Snehana Carried Out?

Snehana can either be done externally or internally. Fats are used for lubrication of the body and include ghee, animal fat, bone marrow, or plant sources like vegetable oil.

The Internal application includes drinking of fat by the patient for 3-7 days where as

The external application includes full body massage

In this Specific massage sequences are used in an hour-long process to soften, loosen and dislodge toxins.
Snehana is deeply relaxing and enjoyable, as stress and toxins are released at all levels – physical, emotional and mental. Snehana literally means to “nurture, to love, to heal, to express kindness and compassion” – and this is exactly what you will experience during this treatment. As a one-off application, Snehana acts as an instant stress-buster. As a series of treatments, the cleansing and nourishing effect is increased manifold. Snehana can be carried out by a single therapist or as a synchronous massage by two therapists.
