AYURVEDA is made up of two words AYU meaning LIFE and VEDA meaning BOOK, the word AYURVEDA itself speaks for its name , that is THE BOOK OF LIFE OR THE KNOWLEDGE OF LIFE.
AYURVEDA is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that has its
origins in the Vedic culture of India. Although suppressed during years of
foreign occupation, Ayurveda has been enjoying a major resurgence in both its
native land and throughout the world. Tibetan medicine and Traditional Chinese
Medicine both have their roots in Ayurveda.
AYURVEDA not only treats the unhealthy but it is a way to live life. The
aim of AYURVEDA is -
"प्रयोजनं चास्य स्वस्थस्य स्वास्थ्यरक्षणमातुरस्यविकार प्रशमनंच!! "
Which means
keeping a healthy individual healthy and making a sick individual free from his
disease.
Ayurveda is a science which consists of eight subjects.
·
Kayachikitsa: general medicine,
medicine of the body
·
Kaumara-bhRitya (Pediatrics): Discussions
about prenatal and postnatal care of baby and mother, methods of conception;
choosing the child's gender, intelligence, and constitution; and childhood
diseases and midwifery.
·
Shalakyatantra: treatment of ailments
affecting ears, eyes, nose, mouth, etc. ("ENT")
·
Bhootavidya: pacification of possessing spirits, and the people
whose minds are affected by such possession
·
Agadatantra (Toxicology): It includes
subjects about epidemics, toxins in animals, vegetables and minerals. It as
well contain keys for recognizing those anomalies and their antidotes.
·
VajikaraNatantra: aphrodisiacs and treatments for increasing the volume and
viability of semen and sexual pleasure. It also deals with infertility problems
(for those hoping to conceive) and spiritual development (transmutation of
sexual energy into spiritual energy).
The first six branches helps in curing diseases whereas the last two
not only cures physical ailments but also helps in keeping a healthy individual
healthy. Various topics such as DINCHARYA and RITUCHARYA teach people about daily activities according
to different seasons.
AYURVEDA is a way of living. For all
those people who think AYURVEDA is mere
VATIS and CHURNAS let me tell you it is very beyond our thinking.
ACCEPT AYURVEDA IN YOUR LIFE AND
YOU’LL NOTICE GREAT CHANGES.
